“Gathering of the daffodils”
a soulful creative retreat for women with joy prouty
I began teaching workshops ten years ago. Up until this year, my workshops had been geared toward professional photographers only, but I felt it was time for a shift - to create a retreat for creative women of all skill levels looking to deepen their lives by making art with meaning and purpose.
I believe that every artist (really, every human being) is a prism - a radiant vessel that translates divine light into a rainbow of glory through their unique giftedness. It is our job to keep our vessels (mind, body & soul) free of hindrances so that we can reflect the image of those who stand before us back to them most clearly in the art we make.
Lessons covered at the retreat…
Welcoming Beauty & Finding Light as Daily Practices.
Shifting from Eye Sight to Heart Sight.
The Neuroscience of Presence.
The Art of Vulnerable Storytelling through Imagery.
Photography as a Salve for Anxiety & Fear.
Redeeming Shame for Light through Self-Portraiture.
Sharing Your Gifts & Your Story with the World.
Naming the Unspeakable Things & The Process of Unlearning.
Creating Photographs as Symbols of Beauty, Pain & Remembrance.
Each retreat is limited to 12 women. We host the retreats on our property in picturesque Gallatin, Tennessee - located 45 minutes north of Nashville. We have a farmhouse in the woods on 6 acres with a stream running through a meadow, a covered bridge and a family of deer that visit on the occasional morning. Our back porch is made completely out of antique windows looking out where wildflowers cover the ground every spring. We have a bunk room on each level of the house where attendees stay. The 13 of us live like a family over the course of three days, and in many ways we do become family. The days are packed full with education and inspiration to help once again hear that still small voice inside. Several photography experiences/portrait sessions will also take place during the retreat with all technical instruction given. Nearing your retreat you will receive an email outlining what to expect at the retreat, what to bring and how to connect with the other women attending.
I call the retreats “gathering of the daffodils” because…
I believe the daffodil has much to teach us about living into our giftedness. It is one the first flowers to bloom in Spring. It stands tall with it’s trumpeting center always facing the sun. It withstands wind by leaning into the storm and draws close to those beside it. The daffodil does not look around wondering if it is worthy of blooming and it does not compare it’s God given beauty to any other. It blooms right where it is planted, trumpeting it’s story heavenward.

Daffodils - Poem & Film by Joy Prouty
She dreamed of daffodils. Within a fence built high round rocky soil, lost in toil, you’ll find her there.
A wall built to keep them out. All of the burdens, keep them out. All of the blessings, she's gone without.
This end, this utter defeat. Flowers crushed beneath rushing feet. Trembling child, you are not alone.
Love has come to bring you home! To turn your swords into shovels, melt icicles to puddles.
Do not struggle, be still now child. Your heart is the greatest muscle. Breathe in, breathe out.
Breath is miracle in motion. Pain and joy living together. All of the pieces falling together.
Rich harvest after rest. Love came down as a helping friend. She gently took you by the hand.
Planted truth into weary bones. Allowed the blooms beneath your feet to grow.
Now, gather them up and give them away. The more you give the more you gain.
Knock down your fence. Love your neighbor. Help a stranger. Hug yourself.
Scatter love, child, Like daffodils.
